Nike Data Catalog

My team was tasked with researching and designing an end-to-end data location experience for Nike business leaders, data scientists, and data engineers.

We facilitated customer interviews, focus groups, workshops & surveys.

The project was a success and has now moved into the development phase.

Data Journey

Data Journey

Challenge | During the concept phase, the Nike Data Catalog team needed insights into how data flows within Nike.

Process | To discover insights, my UX team facilitated user workshops, interviews & surveys to learn how data moves from a business request to data delivery.

Result | Through customer interactions, we were able to identify challenges, opportunities, and actions within each stage of the data journey.

Personas

Personas

Challenge | The Nike Data Catalog team needed to better understand customer needs to inform their product roadmap.

Process | My UX team facilitated workshops, interviews, and surveys, to identify data users’ working styles, tools, needs, and challenges.

Result | We created data community personas, which allowed the Nike Data Catalog team to prioritize their feature development.

Empathy Mapping

Empathy Mapping

Challenge | The Nike Data Catalog team needed a deeper understanding of what customers think, say, do, and feel in order to understand user pain points.

Process | To capture this information, my UX team conducted interviews in which users could share how they felt in an anonymous environment.

Result | Using direct quotes from customers, we created empathy maps that showcased multiple dimensions of the data customer mindset.

User Requirements

User Requirements

Challenge | Nike leadership wanted to ensure that the Nike Data Catalog was being designed in a way that would meet user needs.

Process | Through persona surveys, focus groups, and interviews, my UX team identified recommendations for meeting user needs.

Result | We presented our research findings and user requirements to Nike leadership.

User Journeys

User Journeys

Challenge | Nike Data Catalog stakeholders had competing visions of catalog goals and strategic priorities.

Process | My UX team partnered with Product Team to workshop the user journey. I then took that information, edited the content, illustrated the steps, and laid it out into easy-to-understand user journey maps.

Result | We were able to provide stakeholders with user journey maps to help align their visions of catalog goals and strategic priorities.

UI Wireframes

UI Wireframes

Challenge | To design a minimum viable product experience for Nike data consumers and contributors.

Process | My UX team collaborated with the Nike Data Catalog team to determine user flows and UI page content.

Result | We provided lo-fidelity wireframes to key stakeholders, which detailed user flows and UI page content.

Usability Testing

Usability Testing

Challenge | To understand how to best present search query results within the Nike Data Catalog.

Process | My UX team designed and tested 3 different search results interfaces with users: (1) Card View, (2) List View, and (3) Table View.

Result | We determined that users preferred the table view because it felt intuitive and familiar, was easily scannable, and they could sort and filter the results immediately.

Collaborative Workshops

Collaborative Workshops

Challenge | To define the Nike Data Catalog dashboard experience.

Process | I designed and facilitated collaborative cross-team workshops, which captured a broad range of thoughts, concepts, and ideas from key catalog stakeholders.

Result | We captured participant ideas and identified key ingredients for the data catalog dashboard.
